Summer Wedding Flowers

Choosing Flowers for Your Summer Wedding

Weddings are always very popular during the summer months and this is also one of the best times for wedding flowers. You will have a lot more variety of wedding flower arrangements to choose from during summer than at any other time during the year. Not only will you have more choice in the type of flowers you have to choose from for your wedding bouquet but you will also have a variety of colors to choose from as well. You should be able to find a color of flowers that will match the color of the wedding theme. Flowers for your wedding should be slightly cheaper in the summer months as they will not have to be imported, which maybe the case if you have your wedding during the winter months.

Budgeting for the Cost of Wedding Flowers

The cost of wedding flowers will also depend on if you or your family is going to organize the summer wedding bouquets or are you going to get a professional flower arranger to organize the flowers. You will save a lot of money if you are going to organize the flowers yourself but there is a lot to remember you need the bride’s bouquet, bridesmaid’s bouquet, church flowers, reception flowers and the boutonnière for the wedding guests. Although this does not sound much when you consider the reception needs center pieces and flower arrangements around the location and flower arrangements all around the church or where the wedding ceremony will take place this makes a lot of flowers.

According to Value Penguin the average amount a bride spends on flowers for their wedding is $2,141 (2014 figure). However, this is artificially high because some wealthier families spend huge amounts on marriage celebrations. By being a little thrifty you can spend less than $1,000 and by doing it yourself less than $500.

Florist or DIY

Maybe you have a wedding planner they will be experienced in all aspects of what the best wedding flowers you can have in summer are, they will have the experience of seeing lots of other weddings and the flower arrangements. If you are going to be arranging your own flowers you will need to make sure that the colors of the flowers do not clash with the color of the brides and bridesmaids dresses or the theme where the wedding ceremony and reception are decorated. If you are going to order your flowers from a local florist shop then they will be able to advise you of the summer flowers and colors which are available. You may even be able to get some free advice on all the aspects of the wedding flowers by asking the florist’s advice, if you are spending a lot of money at their shop they will be glad to offer you some advice.

Where to Find Ideas for Wedding Flowers

There are lots of places where you can get ideas on how to decorate your wedding in summer with nice flowers. Wedding magazines are popping up all over the place to give brides ideas on wedding organization. They cover everything from wedding flowers to locations for the honeymoon. There are lots more websites also appearing on the internet especially made for wedding advice, why not have a look at these they may give you an idea of what you want at your wedding. Lastly there is getting a professional in to do the wedding flowers for you, this is by far the easiest method and less stressful then doing the flowers yourself.

Beautiful Flowers and Decorations for a Winter Wedding

We’re coming up to the winter wedding season and arrangements should be well underway. If you haven’t yet organized your wedding flowers, you may want to consider some of these thoughts for sorting flowers which will brighten the dark days of winter and add color to your day!

 • Floral arrangements should be ordered well in advance, as leaving it until the last minute can be an additional risk in the winter - bad weather may delay deliveries and stocks may be low. This not only puts you at risk of not getting your flowers of choice, but also of possibly not getting any at all!

 • Winter flowers can be pretty spectacular. Popular winter choices include roses, snowdrops, winter jasmine, carnation and chrysanthemum. Of course the flower industry is big business throughout the year and most flower species can be bought out of season, but do be aware that this often means that the price is vastly inflated as a result of this.

 • Do also be careful of choosing a seasonal flower that’s popular because of another seasonal event. I was caught in this situation when wanting roses for my own February wedding, as I found my budget being totally out-priced by the Valentine’s Day demand for the same blooms!

 • Artificial flowers aren’t for everyone, but they are well worth considering if your wedding is in the depths of winter. As above, the weather can not only limit your choice and play havoc with the safe arrival of your flowers, but also impact on whether you are able to keep them in optimum conditions so that they are perfect on the day.

Ordering artificial flower arrangements eliminates all of these risks as these can be ordered ahead of time, can include a wide range of flower types (not just those in season) and can be delivered as far in advance of the day as you like, so that you have them safe and sound for the big day without having to worry about perfect botanical storage conditions!

 • For a winter wedding, consider what the season can add to your wedding decorations as well as flowers. Silver stars and snowflakes on sticks (similar to a child’s wand only much more tasteful) can be added to central table decorations and included in the bridal party flowers, such as the wedding bouquet, to add a seasonal touch of glitter or to enhance a winter color theme: silver works brilliantly alongside dark winter ruby red accessories and flower decorations, whilst gold, white and emerald green can be breathtaking!

 • Do also consider other natural elements that fit the season and the flowers. Fir cones are a gorgeous natural accessory that is widely available (for free if you know the right place) throughout the winter. These can be spray painted any color to match or act as contrast to a theme or flowers or, left in their natural state, can add simple, natural warmth to wedding decorations. Similarly, glass and crystal add an icy sparkle and white feathers add a soft, snowy texture – experiment and see!

A few thoughts then, on what to consider about your winter wedding flowers and accessories, to decorate your special moment!
